물질적인 실험을 하면서 갖는 주요한 태도는, 나를 비운다는 태도이다. 물성이 작업과정에 있어 어떤 문들을 살짝 열어주면 나는 그 길로 따라가는 것이다. 내가 하는 일은 내가 가는 길을 스스로 만들어나가는 것이 아니라, 내게 주어진 길들 중 내 마음에 비추어 어느 길로 갈 수 있을 지 선택하는 것이다. 그런 의미에서 나는 새로운 것을 창조하기 보다는 발견한다. 그리고 나는 이것이 일면 내가 삶을 바라보는 방식과 같지 않을까 하고 막연히 짐작하곤 한다. 이 길의 끝은 어떤 모습일지 지금은 모른다. 불확실하기 때문에 불안하지만, 나는 마지막 순간을 향해 달려가는 것이 아니라 그 순간순간 주어지는 것에 예민하게 반응하는 여행자일 수 있다.
My attitude in working materialexperiments is emptying myself. When the materiality opens the doors of possibilities,I follow the ways. What I do is not creating my own way, but choosing which wayI will be able to go. In that sense, my job is discovering rather thancreating. I believe that it is attitude towards my life as well as my work. I donot know what the end of this way will look like. By taking this uncertainty, Ican be a traveler who responds to what is given to me at the moments, ratherthan a runner who rushes to the end.
