<맨질맨질하고 딱딱한 삶에 대한>(2022, 레인보우큐브, 서울) 에 대한 전시 도록.
문서진 작가의 <Tactile Recall 맨질맨질하고 딱딱한 삶에 대한>은 이십여 년 전 돌아가신 할머니를 오래전부터 떠올려 보며, 그에 대한 기억이 많지 않다는 사실에 기억을 긁어 모으며 시작되었다. 대화한 기억보다 몸으로 부대낀 추억이 더 선명했던 작가는 그가 '살아낸 시간'을 신체의 변화와 언어습관, 반복된 행동에서 반추하며 몸적인 감각을 불러일으키는 작품을 제작한다. - 유은순, 「늙음, 부재, 사랑」, 문서진 개인전 도록 발췌.
책에서는 어떤 반복된 행동이나 시간의 흐름에 따라 나이 들어가는 감각과 질감을 은유적으로 표현하고 있다. 맨질맨질하고 견고했던 종이는 점점 얇고 거친 질감으로 변화해가며 늘어가져가는 세월의 변화를 경험해볼 수 있다. 또한, 할머니의 글씨체가 담긴 전화번호부나 러프하게 찍힌 작업실을 인화한 듯한 페이지는 작품의 파편적인 서사를 담고자 한다.
Sujin Moon’s second solo exhibition, Tactile Recall, began as she recalled the memories of her grandmother, who passed away about two decades ago, and realized that she does not have memories of her. The artist, who had more tactile than verbal memories of her grandmother, created works that evoke bodily sensations by reflecting on the “lived time” through physical changes, speech habits, and repeated actions. In the book, you can find metaphorical expressions of the senses and textures of aging according to certain repeated actions or the passage of time. You can experience the change over time as paper, which was once smooth and strong, gradually changes into a thinner and rougher texture. In addition, the pages that look like prints of a phone book containing her grandmother's handwriting or a rough photo of her studio are intended to contain work's process or fragmentary narratives.
